Short description Each summer, Vytautas Magnus University offers an intensive (4 weeks) Lithuanian Language and Culture Summer Course for people of all ages who want to improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in Lithuanian. During the summer course students are offered a comprehensive programme consisting of Lithuanian language classes, lectures, workshops, discussions, movie evenings, sightseeing tours and excursions to learn the language and deepen the knowledge about the Lithuanian lifestyle and culture.

There are courses for all levels, from beginners to advanced learners. Qualified teachers and professors head the programme. Students who are not complete beginners will take a placement test on the first day of the course to determine their level of Lithuanian.

Aim To enable students to learn the Lithuanian language or to improve the existing language skills, to gain insight into Lithuanian culture by participating in lectures and excursions to various places of Lithuania, to get to know Vytautas Magnus University and Kaunas –  the most Lithuanian city of Lithuania.
Learning outcomes By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • speak, read and write in Lithuanian language (at A1, A2, B1 or B2 level);
  • understand the historical, social, and political situation in Lithuania;
  • demonstrate knowledge about Lithuanian cinema, music, art, food and literature.

  • Politics and Society in Today’s Lithuania;
  • Modern Lithuanian Identity;
  • The Features of Lithuanian Literature;
  • Lithuanian Traditional Culture;
  • Contemporary Lithuanian Cinema.
