Target Group Anyone interested in the English language and wishing to improve their language competences at the pre-intermediate level.
Entry requirements Age 18+ and A1.2 level competence of English.
Short description The course provides students with the pre-intermediate (A2.1) level of four basic competences of English (writing, reading, speaking and listening) placing a special focus on communication and cross-cultural communicative skills. The form of studies is blended learning, including class interaction, self-study tasks, work in computer assisted language learning lab and in virtual learning environment. The course is designed to empower learners to use English in real-life situations by increasing their fluency, accuracy and effectiveness of language use at the relevant level along with boosting their self-confidence.
Aim To develop communicative competence of English including linguistic, pragmatic and sociolinguistic components through listening and reading comprehension as well as speaking and writing at the pre-intermediate level (A2.1).
Learning outcomes By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate control of grammatical accuracy, linguistic forms and lexical structures at the A2.1 level
  • Understand clear standard input on current affairs and texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday language
  • Use a sufficient range of vocabulary to express oneself in most general topics related to personality, social life, language learning, customs and cuisine
  • Participate unprepared in informal discussions on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life
  • Write a connected text on topics of personal interest and a short report interpreting information
